Both stern and yearns have similar sounds, we can say they are rhymes, their sounds are similar, almost the same when we pronounce them.
But the difference is very clear in the meaning. They don’t have the same meaning. Stern means something with a very good discipline, very sober while yearns means desire for something, wish so much a specific thing that is lost or far away.
