The earliest cells detectable in fossils were different from the cells in animals, plants, fungi, and protists living today. The

se first prokaryotic cells gave rise to eukaryotic cells approximately 1.7 billion years ago. The structure of eukaryotic cells today suggests how they might have evolved from their prokaryotic ancestors. Scientists examining mitochondria and chloroplasts now think that these organelles were probably free-living prokaryotes before becoming a part of eukaryotic cells long ago. What evidence suggests that mitochondria might have evolved before chloroplasts?

Answer:

In the 1960s, Lynn Magulis came up with the theory of endosymbiosis. Different evidence supports this theory that the cell organelles like chloroplasts and mitochondria were once utilized by the independent living species. Both of these organelles exhibit their own genetic material. The mitochondria cannot differentiate to produce chloroplasts and vice versa.

However, the fact that the mitochondria are found in all the cells of eukaryotes, while the chloroplast is witnessed only in certain specific cells, shows that the evolution of mitochondria took place much earlier than the chloroplasts.

To efficiently provide the ideal amount of nitrogen fertilizer, some farmers make use of a "chlorophyll meter" that measures the
NikAS [45]

Answer:

Chlorophyll is a green pigment found in chloroplast in plants. It absorbs sunlight during the process of photosynthesis. It is a chelate molecule. In a chelate molecule a central metal ion forms bonds with a large organic molecule made of carbon, hydrogen and other elements like nitrogen or oxygen.

In chlorophyll, magnesium is the central metal ion and it is bonded to a large organic molecule called as porphyrin. Porphyrin constitutes four nitrogen atoms to which the central magnesium is bonded in square planar arrangement. Since chlorophyll is responsible for the green color of the leaves, more the green color more the chlorophyll content and more is the nitrogen content. Hence, chlorophyll meter measures this green light and finds out if the plant needs more or less nitrogen.

How does the chance of a coin landing on each side compare to the chance that a gamete cell will receive a particular gene at me
tresset_1 [31]
The chance of a coin landing heads or tails is 50% for each individual time. It doesn't matter what the previous throws resulted in. If you flip a coin ten times you can get ten heads, but the probability is still 50% for each toss. The same holds true with gametes. The probability is 50% at the production of each individual cell.

Explain how the data from your experiments showed that cyanide was used to poison Jared, and that 2-deoxyglucose, arsenic and ol
Aliun [14]

The question is incomplete as the background of the case and symptoms of Jarod is not provided, however, the missing data required for the question is as follows:

Jared was investigating a drug cartel and ate a meal with one of the suspects. After the meal, he had trouble breathing and felt weak and dizzy. Jared may have been poisoned. He is being taken to the CIA hospital for treatment. You are a medical toxologist working for the CIA. It is your job to find out what poison was given to Jared and try to save his life. Patient: Jared Sondheim Age: 32 Occupation: CIA Agent Symptoms: Muscle Weakness Shortness of Breath Dizziness. Jared has arrived at the hospital! It is your job to find out what toxin was used to poison Jared. You can then give him the correct antidote to save Jared's life.

Answer:

Poisning by 2-deoxyglucose syops the glycolysis process which leads to cardiovascular and respiratory symptoms. Due to property of inhibiting the enzyme reqquired for glycolysis, glucokinase. So, there is no ATP production takes place.

Arsenic poisoning inhibits the second stae of cellular respiration, the Krebs cycle which leads to pyruvate accumalation. The symptoms associated with arsenic are diarrhea, sking tone, abdomunal pain, and muscle cramps.

Oligomycin is used as an antibiotic to inhibit proton ATPase present in mitochondria membrane which blocks ATP formation. Watery eyes, cough, congestion in chest and nose are sysmptopms of oligomycin poisining.

The symptoms cyanide poisoning are dizziness, short breath, nd muscle weakness which matches with the symptoms of jarod.

Look at the data related to honey bee population losses between 2006 and 2013 (Figure 1). Expand on the data. How would you revi
olga_2 [115]

In order to improve the graph and make it more detailed in order to get a better perception why the honey bee populations are decreasing, there's few things that can be added.

- Number of bee keepers over the period

The number of the honey bee colonies is directly connected as to how many bee keepers there are. If there's a trend of a decline in the bee keepers, than there will be a trend in the decline of the honey bees.

- Area of trees suitable for the honey bees

The trees are crucial for the honey bees to be able to produce honey, thus it is very important that they have a certain area of trees on which they can feed upon. If there's a decline in the number of trees for the bees, than the bees will be dying from starvation.

- Pollution

The honey bees are animals that are very sensitive to changes in the environment, especially when it comes to pollution. If the levels of pollution are increasing in areas where there's honey bees, it will certainly affect their numbers in a negative manner.
