Further Explanation

Alexander the Great, the king of the legendary kingdom of Macedonia, forever introduced the word "Macedonia" into world history.

Macedonia is located in the center of the Balkan Peninsula, in Southeast Europe. In the east, Macedonia borders Bulgaria, in the north - with Serbia, in the northwest - with Kosovo, in the south - with Greece, and in the west - with Albania. Macedonia is located in the valley of the Vardar River, but most of the country is covered by mountains (Skopska Crna-Gora, Pind and Pirin). The capital of Macedonia is Skopje, where more than 870 thousand people live.

In the early Middle Ages, Macedonia was ruled by the Byzantine Empire and the kingdom of Bulgaria. At the beginning of the XIV century, Macedonia became part of the Serbian state, and later the Ottoman Empire conquered this country. Macedonia was part of the Ottoman Empire for five centuries.

After being weakened by the Slavic attack in the late 6th century, which destroyed the agrarian economy in Macedonia and possibly also by the "Plague of Justinian" ("Plague of Justinian") in 547, the city was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake around the year 619, and cannot recover. There were a number of activities in the 7th century, but the city has become a village.

The Byzantine Empire apparently placed a line there, but in 838 the city was captured by the Bulgar under the leadership of Kavhan Isbul. A number of contemporaries with the Byzantine Empire were influenced by the culture of the empire, even though it was not actually part of the empire ("Byzantine commonwealth"). Fine art produced by Eastern Orthodox Christians living in the Ottoman Empire is often called "post-Byzantine". Certain artistic traditions originating from the Byzantine Empire, which are mostly related to iconic paintings and church architecture, are common in Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia, and other Eastern Orthodox countries to the present. Early Byzantine architecture was built as a way to commemorate Roman architecture. Byzantine architecture is the architecture of the Byzantine Empire (or Eastern Roman Empire). This terminology is used by modern historians to classify the medieval Roman Empire in such a way because of its development as a cultural and artistic entity centered on the new capital of Constantinople, in contrast to the city of Rome and its surroundings

At the beginning of the 20th century, Macedonia belonged to Serbia, Greece, and Bulgaria. Then Macedonia, called Vardar banovina, entered the Yugoslav Kingdom. After World War II, Macedonia became one of the socialist republics in Yugoslavia. In all cities and villages in Macedonia, residents carefully preserve the traditions of their people. One model is the medieval city of Krushevo, where Macedonian traditions are perhaps most prominent.

The largest cities in Macedonia are Bitola, Kumanovo, Prilep, and, of course, the capital is Skopje.
