Eddi Din [679]
England and Spain had been at each other's neck from 1585 to 1603. It all started during the era of exploration of the New World. Both couhtries were vying for the wealth and power brought upon the expeditions. Another issue that both had been very tense about is religion. England was a Protestant country under the rule of Elizabeth I. Spain considered it as a religous crusade and lastly, English Seamen were attacking Spanish vessels. Why are military bases considered "ground zero" for epidemic outbreaks?
melomori [17]

The military basis are considered as ''ground zero'' for epidemic outbreaks because of the constant movement of the people. The soldiers are moved from one place to another regularly. They can be in a military base in Africa, than sent in a military base in Asia, after that get back home. Wherever they are, they are in constant touch with people. The diseases that are found in certain places in the world can be very easily transferred to them, and they will easily transfer the disease to their colleagues, to the people in another military base, or to the people back home, thus being the ones that spread out the disease and cause an epidemic of the same.

He is referring to the policies of colonialism that were widespread. He was British and visited many of the British colonies, but spent a lot of his time in India. These were all lands that Britain had previously colonized and he is referring to the colonization that was predominantly done by white people from Europe.

They would blame them because they wouldn't be free. The colonies were getting "bettered" because they got technology and similar things, but they were blamed because the colonists didn't have independence and freedom and were stripped of their resources and natural wealth which was common at the time.
