This process is simply a transformation of sediments into sedimentary rocks and igneous rocks.

Sediments are broken down from pre-existing rocks and they are carried away into basins where they are deposited.

Compaction, cementation and lithification leads to the formations of sedimentary rocks from this deposits.

Under intense heat and pressure with burial, the sedimentary rock is melted. The resulting magma rises and cools beneath the earth to form intrusive igneous rocks, if the magma reaches the surface, an extrusive igneous rock forms.
