Ariana and Emily are both standing in line at Papa Joe’s Pizza. Ariana orders 4 large cheese pizzas and 1 order of breadsticks.

Her total before tax is $34.46. Emily orders 2 large cheese pizzas and 1 order of breadsticks. Her total before tax is $18.48. Determine the cost of 1 large cheese pizza and 1 order of breadsticks. Explain the method you used for solving this problem.

The cost of 1 large pizza is $7.99 and cost of one breadstick is $2.50

Elimination method was used.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

Cost of one large pizza = x

Cost of one breadstick = y

According to given statement;

4x+y=34.46    Eqn 1

2x+y=18.48     Eqn 2

Subtracting Eqn 2 from Eqn 1

(4x+y)-(2x+y)=34.46-18.48\\4x+y-2x-y=15.98\\2x=15.98

Dividing both sides by 2

\frac{2x}{2}=\frac{15.98}\\x=7.99

Putting x=7.99 in Eqn 2

4(7.99)+y=34.46\\31.96+y=34.46\\y=34.46-31.96\\y=2.50

The cost of 1 large pizza is $7.99 and cost of one breadstick is $2.50

Elimination method was used.

Robert earned $10, which was 4 less than twice what Eric earned , How much money did Eric earn?
Kisachek [45]

Answer:

Eric's earning is $7

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

Represent Robert's earnings with R and Eric's with E.

R = 10\\R = 2E - 4

Required

What is the value of E?

Substitute 10 for R in the second equation.

10 = 2E - 4

Solve for 2E

2E = 10 + 4

2E = 14

Solve for E

E = 14/2

E = 7

<em>Eric's earning is $7</em>

Which congruence theorem can be used to prove △MLQ ≅ △NPQ?<br><br> AAS <br> SSS <br> ASA <br> SAS
storchak [24]
Answer: SSS

Proof:
In ΔMLQ and ΔNPQ,
MQ = NQ (given) S
Since Q is the midpoint of LP, by definition, LQ = QP (S)
LM = PN (given) S

∴ ΔMLQ ≡ ΔNPQ (SSS)

The graphs shown are of the form y = ax2. Which graph has the smallest value for a?
Talja [164]
y= x^{2} is a parabola (looks like the letter U).

The letter a represents the coefficient of x^{2} and it controls two things (1) how wide or narrow the parabola is and (2) whether it is concave up (like a U) or concave down (like an up-side-down).

The absolute value of a (the number without the sign) controls how wide or narrow it is. If the absolute value is a fraction less than 1 the graph gets wider. The smaller the absolute value of the fraction the wider the graph gets.

If the absolute value of a is greater than 1 the graph gets narrower (it gets skinnier). The bigger the absolute value the narrower the graph.

So, if all the graphs look like a U (concave up) then the one with the smallest a is the one that is the widest.

The a also controls whether the graph is concave up or concave down. If a is negative

If a is negative the graph is concave down so any graph that is concave down has a smaller value of a than any graph that is concave up. However, if the graph is concave down the one with the smallest a would be the most narrow one.

So to find the one with the smallest a...
If they are all concave up (like a U) pick the widest one
and
If they are not all concave up pick the narrowest one that is concave down (looks like an upside down U)
