Answer:

10 chromosomes/sister chromatids

Explanation:

Prophase is the first stage of cell division (mitosis). Prior to the cell entering the actual division stage, it undergoes a phase where it prepares its content and most importantly undergo the duplication of its genetic material (DNA). This DNA are found as chromosomes. It undergoes replication of its DNA in the S-phase of interphase stage.

Since Arabidopsis thaliana has 10 chromosomes, and each chromosome holds one DNA molecule, 10 molecules of DNA will be present in the mustard plant's genome. These 10 molecules of DNA will be replicated on another copy of chromosome which is identical to the template. This chromosomes are called SISTER chromatids i.e. replicated chromosome. Each sister chromatids are held together at the centromere and are considered one individual chromosome until they separate during anaphase stage.

Hence, at the Prophase stage, before separation, each sister chromatid (replicated chromosome) is considered as one chromosome. Thus, in the mustard plant with 10 chromosomes, it will possess 10 sister chromatids or chromosomes at the Prophase stage.

N.B: When sister chromatids separate during anaphase stage, they will be regarded as individual chromosomes.

Coach Damien notices that some of his football players drink more water than others before Friday night games. He is interested
max2010maxim [7]

The independent variable is the amount of water consumed by the football players.

The dependent variable is the football players' endurance, measured by how many times they can run up and down the bleachers before catching their breaths.

The coach's hypothesis was that the more water consumed, the more endurance the players will have.

There is not a control group present in this experiment, but it would be the set of players who did not drink a bottle of water before practice.

The experimental group is the set of players who did drink a bottle of water before practice.

The constants in the experiment are the operational definitions of endurance (how he measures their endurance), the amount of water each player drinks throughout the week, and the players used in the experiment.

The lack of a set control group poses a threat to the accuracy of the experiment's results.

In E. coli, the primary component of the mismatch repair system is the protein MutS. How does MutS recognize mismatched base pai
nignag [31]

Answer:

The best answer to the question, given the research found on this particular process in E. Coli specifically, would be: D) It identifies hemimethylated base pairs and methylates the unmodified base.

Explanation:

According to research on this pretty complicated topic, in E. Coli specifically, and other gram negative prokaryotes, it has been found that the presence, or absence of methylation will initiate MutS, which is a protein both in prokaryotes and eukaryotes responsible, in a full complex, of initiating and carrying out the full mechanism of DNA mismatch repair. As the daughter DNA strands are produced from parent strands, these first ones arise with several deletions and mismatches which need to be repaired and they are recognized due to the fact that daughter strands are hemimethylated. This circumstance activates MutS in E. Coli, who will then bind to the DNA strand that needs to be repaired and together with other members of the complex, like MutH and MutL, begin the process of repair.

In eukaryotes and other prokaryotes, the exact process by which DNA is repaired by MutS is still not totally known.
