Answer:

President John F. Kennedy, known for his diligence and persuasion, called for a news conference about the hikes in steel prices by 3.5 percent. President Kennedy used strategies such as; repetition, diction, statistics and emotional appeals to approach steel companies.

President Kennedy starts off by setting a strict tone, "In this serious hour in our nation's history", to let steel companies know the increase in steel prices is a national problem, moreover, Kennedy informs the steel companies that the problem affects everyone thus repetition. President Kennedy constantly uses "we" to show that even a man of his place and class is affected by this outrage. Afterwards, President Kennedy uses a cause and effect strategy while combining a guilty type of tone in the third paragraph, "If this rise in the cost steel prices is imitated by the rest of the industry instead of rescinded, it would increase cost of homes, autos, appliances, and most other items for every American family", to convey the grace results of imitation of increasing steel prices from the rest of the industry.

Furthermore, Kennedy uses emotional appeals as well as carefully picked diction to persuade the citizens and steel companies to his side. To begin, Kennedy picks specific words that he knows will have a negative and persuasive emotion. In the first paragraph, Kennedy says, “Constitutes a wholly unjustifiable and irresponsible defiance of the public interest", Kennedy intentionally makes steel companies look selfish and show they are more against the "public emotions". In the second paragraph, he states, "...tiny handful of steel executives whose pursuit of private power and profit exceeds their sense of public responsibility can show utter contempt for the interests of 185 million Americans", Kennedy separates the "tiny handful of steel executives" from the 185 million Americans showcasing how insignificant the "tiny handful of steel executives" are and on top of that, it shows how they can't sacrifice their "private power" and "profit" for their "sense of public responsibility". Not to mention, Kennedy implements pathos in the same paragraph by targeting the "war" point of view since America was in the middle of the Vietnam War. He addresses the sacrifices the people are making, "When we are devoting our energies to economic recovery and stability, when we are asking Reservists to leave their homes and families for months on end... at a time when restraint and sacrifices are being asked of every American", while the steel companies prioritizes in this dark hour.

In this impressive speech, John F. Kennedy establishes a very distinctive line between "185 million Americans" against a "tiny handful of steel executives" while also, impressively, including himself with the 185 million Americans, us versus them, to tell his citizens of how redundant and unneeded the price increase of steel.

Using a subordinating conjunction of time, change the italicized sentence to an adverb clause and combine it with the remaining
aleksklad [387]

Even though you did not italicize the clauses, I believe this question is still answerable. Take a look at the explanation and answer below:

Answer and Explanation:

Adverb clauses function as an adverb, modifying an adjective, a verb, or another adjective in the sentence. They can indicate manner, location, time, cause, concession, degree, and reason. Adverb clauses must present a subordinating conjunction. With that in mind, let's combine the clauses below by transforming one of them into an adverb clause:

1. I put my complaint on paper. I felt much better.

After I put my complaint on paper, I felt much better.

2. Dan has a good memory, and he can learn his part fast.

Because Dan has a good memory, he can learn his part fast.

3. The flowers appeared to vanish. The magician pulled away the scarf quickly.

The flowers appeared to vanish when the magician pulled away the scarf quickly.

4. We need to reach the airport on time. Our plane may take off without us.

Unless we reach the airport on time, our plane may take off without us.

5. I moved from the end of the row to the middle. I could see the speaker more clearly.

Since I moved from the end of the row to the middle, I could see the speaker more clearly.

"Perseus is described as 'brave and truthful, gentle and courteous'" should be written after sentence 2, "One reason is that he showed traits that were valued". It makes an appropriate introduction for the following sentence then ties it all up in the next.

Which example avoids redundancy of language? A) The supper they fed us was tasty and delicious. B) The supper they fed us was de
kifflom [539]

Answer:

Example that avoids redundancy of language is Option B) The supper they fed us was delicious and filling.

Explanation:

Redundancy means the words used have the same meaning. This leads to repetition in the sentence and doesn't give a good effect to the reader. He might get confused by the writing with redundancy as well.

Option A refers the food as delicious and tasty which mean the same. So, it is redundant. Option C refers to supper as plentiful and abundant which mean the same, that the supper was more than enough for them. This option is therefore redundant. Option D uses words like nutritious and good for us, which mean the same.

Hence, the example that avoids redundancy is Option B which uses words delicious and filling for the supper. Delicious means tasty and filling means it was enough to fill their stomach.

He was dismissed for negligence rather than incompetence
adoni [48]

Hello. This question is incomplete. The full question is:

He was dismissed for negligence rather than incompetence.-use adjective form of negligence

Answer:

He was dismissed for being negligent rather than being incompetent.

Explanation:

In order to use the word "negligence" as an adjective (in the sentence shown in the question this word is presented as a noun) it will be necessary to transform it into a characteristic of the subject of the sentence. That's because adjectives are words that describe characteristics of something or someone.

Thus, the correct form of the sentence would be: "He was dismissed for being negligent rather than being incompetent. "

Which phrase from Barrio Boy contains a simile? explore the remarkable inventions of the Americans wait there until another pass
Anni [7]

Before answering the question, let us explain what a Simile is:

According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a Simile is “figure of speech comparing two unlike things that is often introduced by like or as (as in cheeks like roses)”

It is similar to a metaphor but simpler and easier to understand and the metaphor is not presented by the comparatives “as” or “like”.

The phrase from “Barrio Boy” that contains a simile is:

"...a large hole that looked like a horse collar."

The exact simile is: a large hole like a horse collar.
