Two currently owned machines are being considered for the production of a part. The capital investment associated with the machi

nes is about the same and can be ignored for purposes of this example. The important differences between the machines are their production capacities (production rate x available production hours) and their reject rates (percentage of parts produced that cannot be sold). Consider the following table: Machine A Machine B Production rate Hours available for production Percent parts rejected 100 parts/hour 7 hours/day 3% 130 parts/hour 6 hours/day 10% The material cost is $6.00 per part, and all defect-free parts produced can be sold for $12 each. (Rejected parts have negligible scrap value.) For either machine, the operator cost is $15.00 per hour and the variable overhead rate for traceable costs is $5.00 per hour. Assume that the daily demand for this part is large enough that all defect-free parts can be sold. Which machine should be selected?

Answer:

Machine A's output in a day = 100 × 7 = 700

Rejected output of machine A =0.03 × 700 = 21

Thus defect free output of machine A = 700 – 21 = 679

Revenue from Using Machine A = 679 × 12 = 8148

Cost of Using Machine A = 6 × (Defect free output) + 15 × 7 + 5 × 7 = 6 × 679 + 105 + 35 = 4214

Thus, profit from using machine A = 8148 – 4214 = 3934

Machine B's output in a day =130 × 6 = 780

Rejected output of machine B = 0.1 × 780 = 78

Thus, defect free output of machine B = 780 – 78 = 702

Revenue from Using Machine B = 702 × 12 = 8424

Cost of Using Machine B = 6 × 702 + 15 × 6 + 5 × 6 = + 105 + 35 = 4212 + 120 = 4332

Thus profit from using machine B = 8424 – 4332 = 4029

Since the profit from using machine B is higher, Machine B should be selected.

Gala2k [10]

Answer:

a.

Net Income for 2022 = $33000

b.

Net Income for 2022 = $36000

Explanation:

a.

The cash basis accounting follows that all the transactions should be recorded in the period in which cash is either received or paid out as a result of that transaction rather than in the period to which they relate to.

Thus, the Net Income for 2022 under cash basis will be,

Cash Receipts in 2022

Collections from customer 105000

Less: Cash Payments in 2020

Expenses paid (72000)

Net Income 33000

b.

Under accrual basis, the transactions should be recorded in the period to which they relate to rather than in the period when cash is received or paid out.

Thus, net income for 2022 under accrual basis will be,

Revenue 2022 = 105000 - 25000 + 40000 = $120000

Expenses 2022 = 72000 - 30000 + 42000 = $84000

Net Income = 120000 - 84000 = $36000

Nostrana [21]

Answer:

b. Debit Work in Process Inventory $160,000; credit Factory Payroll Payable $160,000.

Explanation:

In order to record the cost of goods manufactured, once the goods are finished, you add up all the work in process debits. The following journal entry would be:

Dr Finished goods inventory

Cr Work in process inventory (all added up)

In this case, since you are recording labor usage, you must also credit wages or payroll payable (that correspond to the amount of labor used to manufacture the goods).

Alenkasestr [34]

Answer:

-$16.78%

Explanation:

Given that

Proceeds from selling the shares = $4,301

Beginning price = $12.92

The computation of capital gains yield is shown below:-

End price per share

= $4,301 ÷ 400

= $10.7525 per share

Capital gains yield = (End price - Beginning price) ÷ Beginning price

= ($10.7525 - $12.92) ÷ $12.92

= -$2.1675 ÷ $12.92

= -$16.78%
