During the Purification of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) experiment, you will need 50ml of buffer A150. Buffer A150 is 30mM Tris (

pH 8.8) and 150mM NaCl. Given 1L of 1.5M Tris and 500ml of 5M NaCl, how much of each stock do you need to make 500ml of the A150 buffer?

Answer:

You will need 10 mL of stock Tris, 15mL of stock NaCl and enough water to bring the total volume to 500 mL.

Explanation:

The desired buffer contains:

 • Total volume of 500 mL
 • Tris 30mM
 • NaCl 150mM

The stock solutions are:

 • 1.5M = 1500mM Tris
 • 5M = 5000mM NaCl

We can use the formula C1V1=C2V2 to calculate the volume of each stock required to prepare the buffer.

Tris

 • C1= 1500 mM
 • V1=?
 • C2= 30mM
 • V2= 500 mL

1500 mM x V1 = 30mM x 500 mL

V1 = (30mM x 500 mL) / 1500 mM

V1 = 10 mL

NaCl

 • C1= 5000 mM
 • V1=?
 • C2= 150 mM
 • v2= 500 mL

5000 mM x V1 = 150mM x 500 mL

V1 = (150 mM x 500 mL) / 5000 mM

V1 = 15 mL

You will need 10 mL of stock Tris, 15mL of stock NaCl and enough water to bring the total volume to 500 mL.

Ilya [14]
In eukaryotes, replication takes place in the nucleus as prokaryotes do not have a true nucleus and replication takes place in the cytoplasm. The nucleus of the eukaryotes is the location where genetic material (DNA) is found; in prokaryotes, the genetic material is condensed in the cytoplasm called the nucleoid. There are multiple replication forks or multiple origins of replication in eukaryotes in contrast to prokaryotes which only has one origin of replication. Lastly, replication in eukaryotes occurs at multiple points along the chromosome; in contrast with prokaryotes where it occurs at just one point on the chromosome.

In the first 2.5 hours after a radical neck dissection, 40 ml of medium-red, bloody fluid is obtained from the client's drainage
cluponka [151]
The nurse should assess the patient vital sign and notify the healthcare provider. For 2.5 hour after neck dissection, production of 40ml by the drainage is a bit excessive. There might be a bleeding in the site of operation that becomes the source of the drainage. Change dressing will not do anything. Applying pressure can be done if the site of bleeding is known.

Which provides long-term energy storage?
Lemur [1.5K]

Glycogen provides long-term energy storage.

Glycogen is an example of a carbohydrate which is a polysaccharide that acts as a long-term energy storage compound in animals.

Further Explanation

 • Living organisms require energy in order to undertake their daily activities such as growth and development, locomotion, gaseous exchange, etc. To do so they obtain nutrients for short-term and long-term energy source.
 • Carbohydrates are the major energy source for living organisms, however, living organisms may use other sources of energy such as proteins or fats when carbohydrates is out of stock or not available.

Energy source in animals

 • Animals use simple carbohydrates such as glucose obtained from diet for short-term energy sources.
 • These simple carbohydrates may also be stored for future use in the form of glycogen, which makes glycogen a long-term energy source, to be used when need arises.
 • When glucose levels are low in the body hormones in the body trigger the breakdown of glycogen to glucose.
 • Other sources of energy such as proteins and fats are used when carbohydrates storage is depleted, for example during starvation.

Energy source in plants

 • In plants, on the other hand, simple carbohydrates are similarly used as a short term source of energy. Additionally, simple molecules such as glucose are stored in the form of starch for long-term source of energy for the plants.

Why other Choices are incorrect:

Glucagon

 • Glucagon is the hormone that increases the blood glucose level to avoid it from dropping below optimum level.
 • The hormone acts on the liver to stimulate the breakdown of glycogen to glucose, a process called glycogenolysis, and the glucose is released to the blood stream.

Glucose

 • Glucose is a simple carbohydrate classified as monosaccharides. It acts as the short term source of energy in both plants and animals.
 • It is readily broken down during the process of cellular respiration to yield energy in the form of ATP, which is then used to drive cellular processes.

Cellulose

 • Cellulose is an example of a complex carbohydrates known as polysaccharides.
 • It is found in plants cells lining the cell wall of all plant cells which is one of the key distinguishing feature between plant cells and animal cells.
