For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. What is the effect of the word “atom” in this line and later in the poem?

In the poem "Song of Myself," Whitman talks about the universality of human experience. This is what he refers to when he says "for every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you." In this way, the author wants to highlight how every human is as much of a human, and as real, as every other. They all have an equal right to be on Earth, to be happy, to live life, to have experiences. The author uses the word "atom" to highlight that all matter follows this rule, regardless of what it constitutes. He also uses it to explain that his conviction is so deep and his argument so all-encompassing that it even applies to the specific atoms of things.

The narrator’s description of the colonel during the reception leads the reader to conclude that—
katovenus [111]

The narrator's description of the colonel during the reception leads the reader to conclude that:

D. the colonel inspires great fear among the townspeople.

The passage to which this question refers to can be found online. It belongs to the story "The Refusal," by Bohemian writer Franz Kafka (1883-1924).

The narrator of the story is a boy who describes how his town is controlled by an authoritarian government.

The colonel is also the town's tax-collector. Whenever the townspeople need anything, it is the colonel they address. However, as the narrator describes, the reception by the colonel is quite a sight to see.

The people go see the colonel, who stands upright, barely moving, breathing deeply, and saying nothing. The one person chosen to speak on behalf of the others is so intimidated by the colonel that he seems about to faint.

Thus, we can clearly see that the colonel inspires fear among the townspeople. Although they do talk to him, it is with great effort and anxiety. Once it is all over with, the people sigh in relief and leave.

Which best compares the authors purpose in silent spring and "save the redwoods"?

Maksim231197 [3]

Answer:

Both authors want readers to protect human rights, to focus on saving trees. They intend to entertain readers with their essays and also to convince readers of their viewpoint.

Explanation:

In Silent Spring Rachel Carson makes up a fictional story about what life in the United States will be like if we don't save the environment, whereas in "Save the Redwoods", by John Muir, the author present facts and evidence to convince readers to rescue the Sequoia, which is a kind of tree.

Read the events that led to Art Fry's creation of temporarily permanent bookmarks described in The Evolution of Useful Things.
Len [333]

Answer:

Hi! The correct order of the events that led to Art Fry's creation of temporarily permanent bookmarks described in The Evolution of Useful Things is: 3,4,1,2. The correct answer is the third one.

Explanation:

I chose the third option (3,4,1,2) because, according to the text, the chronological order for the things that led Art Fry's creation are:

 1. Spencer Silver came upon a curious adhesive that he demonstrated to Fry.
 2. Fry reflected on the failure of bookmarks to do all that might be expected of them.
 3. Fry spent nearly a year and a half experimenting.
 4. Fry's idea was accepted as being commercially viable.

Besides the way in which these events were described by the author, and if you think about it, it is pretty logical the way this happened. Usually, we come up with ideas when we are complaining about the lack of a thing that would be useful in certain moments. If you think about it, this is also what happened here. The last step of the process is always the commercial viability just as in this case.
