John Muir was a great nature lover, or to be more precise, he was a naturalist. That simply means he believed that all of the nature is connected, including human, and that all of nature's beauties and laws need to be respected and preserved.

This point of view is best seen in his essays where he writes about his journeys into the wilderness. Reading them, we are introduced to deep feelings of admiration and respect Muir had for nature.

He used well chosen words and rich descriptions in attempt to awake similar feelings in the reader.

Maybe the best example of this is his description and fasvination with the flower, Calypso Borealis, which mesmerized him.

Muir encourages us not to change, destroy or tame the nature, but to explore and enjoy it as mere observers.
