There is a mountain with 45 bat caves in a row. Every cave has at least 2 bats and there are 490 bats in all. Any 7 caves in a r

ow contain exactly 77 bats. Suppose the first cave has 7 times more bats than the last cave. What is the greatest possible number of bats in the 30th cave?

Answer:

12

Step-by-step explanation:

The first cave has 7 times more bats than the last cave.  So if the 45th cave has b bats, then the first cave has 7b bats.

There are 77 bats in every row of 7 caves.  So if there are 7b bats in the first cave, then there are 77−7b bats in caves 2 through 7.

Since there are also 77 bats in caves 2 through 8, that means cave #8 must have 7b bats.  Repeating this logic:

#1 = 7b

#2-#7 = 77−7b

#8 = 7b

#9-#14 = 77−7b

#15 = 7b

#16-21 = 77−7b

#22 = 7b

#23-28 = 77−7b

#29 = 7b

So the first 29 caves have 5(7b) + 4(77−7b) = 308 + 7b bats.

Now we do the same thing from the other end.  If cave #45 has b bats, then caves #39-#44 have 77−b bats.  And since caves #38-44 have 77 bats, then cave #38 has b bats.  Therefore:

#45 = b

#39-44 = 77−b

#38 = b

#32-37 = 77−b

#31 = b

So caves 31 through 45 have 3b + 2(77−b) = 154 + b bats.

Adding that to the first 29 caves, plus x number of bats in cave #30:

308 + 7b + x + 154 + b = 462 + 8b + x

We know this equals 490.

490 = 462 + 8b + x

28 = 8b + x

x is a maximum when b is a minimum, which is b = 2.

28 = 8(2) + x

x = 12

There are at most 12 bats in the 30th cave.

Grace has 1.35 pounds of strawberries, 1.4 pounds of bananas, and some apples. She has more pounds of apples than pounds of stra
satela [25.4K]

Answer:

Grace could have 1.36 pounds, 1.37 pounds, 1.38 pounds or 1.39 pounds of apples.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let a represent pounds of apples.

We have been given that Grace has 1.35 pounds of strawberries. She has more pounds of apples than pounds of strawberries.

This means that a is greater than 1.35. We can represent this information in an inequality as:

a>1.35

We are also told that Grace has 1.4 pounds of bananas. She has fewer pounds of apples than pounds of bananas. This means that a is less than 1.4. We can represent this information in an inequality as:

a

Upon combining both inequalities, we will get:

1.35

Therefore, Grace could have 1.36 pounds, 1.37 pounds, 1.38 pounds or 1.39 pounds of apples.

What is the volume of a right circular cone that has a height of 11.7meters and a base with a circumference of 9 meters? Round t
nekit [7.7K]

Answer:

  25.1 cubic meters

Step-by-step explanation:

The volume is given by ...

  V = (1/3)Bh

where B is the area of the base.

  B = πr² = π(C/(2π))² = C²/(4π)

Then the volume is ...

  V = (1/3)(C²/(4π))h = C²h/(12π)

  V = (9 m)²(11.7 m)/(12·3.14159) ≈ 25.1 m³

The volume of the cone is about 25.1 cubic meters.

Rewrite the interval 11-20 using inequalities
Svetach [21]
If you're meaning a value between 11 and 20, write
11<x>20 and put a line under the < and > which indicates that x could also equal 11 or 20. x doesnt only have to be a value between 11 and 20, but it can equal the numbers too.

i dont think that makes a lot of sense but if you were to say the answer out loud, the answer would be "x (which is any value) is more than or equal to 11 and less than or equal to 20"

The formula s = StartRoot StartFraction S A Over 6 EndFraction EndRoot gives the length of the side, s, of a cube with a surface
never [62]

Answer:

2\sqrt{2}\ ft\ longer

Step-by-step explanation:

<u>Area Of A Cube </u>

Suppose a cube with side length s, the area of one side is

A_s=s^2

Since the cube has 6 sides, the total area is

A=6A_s=6s^2

But if we have the area, we can solve the above formula for s to get

A=6s^2

\displaystyle s=\sqrt{\frac{A}{6}}

We have two different cubes with areas 1,200 square inches and  768 square inches. Let's compute their side lengths

\displaystyle s_1=\sqrt{\frac{1,200}{6}}=\sqrt{200}

\displaystyle s_1=10\sqrt{2}\ ft

\displaystyle s_2=\sqrt{\frac{768}{6}}=\sqrt{128}

\displaystyle s_2=8\sqrt{2} ft

The difference between them is

10\sqrt{2}\ ft-8\sqrt{2}\ ft=2\sqrt{2}\ ft\approx 2.83\ ft

The side of the cube with area 1,200 square inches is 2\sqrt{2}\ ft longer then the side of the cube with area 768 square inches
