Music repeats itself a lot especially in snare music. Most likely every 2-4 measures the downbeat of beat 1 will be the beginning of the repeated pattern.
A much simpler way of helping someone stay on the beat is just to use a metronome in your ear to assure that your pulse is correct for the band to follow.
