Altruism reflects a level of selflessness in a person, a moral principle and practice that encourages the happiness and good well being(material or spiritual) of other people. It is a traditional virtue in most cultures although varying among them. From the above Autrey's actions can be considered altruistic since he risked his life(an extreme case if altruism) thereby exercising a great level of selflessness and sacrifice to help another person. He considers it a rewarding experience since he strongly believes this a virtue and helps without fear.
