100 words is a lot, but you should know; in a pure democracy people vote on everything from fixing a road in California, to oil drills in Alaska. In a republic the public vote for a group who will vote on it on the public's behlaf among the other elected "representatives" so people in flordia don't have to vote for something happening in Michigan.

In a pure democracy, there is a popular vote for every issue that needs to be discussed. This is opposed to a republican system, in which people only vote directly when they chose their leaders (there are some exceptions, such as a referendum). Madison believed that pure democracy would be inefficient in a large republic. Pure democracy works only in small settings, such as a company meeting or a very small village. Moreover, he believed that having representatives would provide a "buffer" for factionalism. Factions occur when people separate into groups for a particular purpose and vote for their benefit as opposed to the public good. Having representatives can provide a buffer for people's selfishness and self-interest.

Help me find the right aswer of gaps 2 and 5:
Artyom0805 [142]

Answer:

The correct answers are:

2. unattractive

5. However

Explanation:

In sentence number 2, the correct answer would be unattractive, as we can notice the shop windows discourage shoppers because of their emptiness. Bustling means full of activity, impressive means special, important or really large, so those options cannot be considered as a correct answer. Option A could be the correct answer, but unattractive fits better at the context then frequent.

In sentence number 5, the correct answer would be however. Because introduces causes and reasons, by introducing a subordinate clause, which needs a main clause to make it complete. Therefore, it cannot be considered a correct answer. Although means in spite of something and it can be used at the beginning or in the middle of a sentence, but it doesn't have a comma afterward and it cannot be considered as a correct answer.

We use otherwise to introduce a thought or an idea that contains an opposite claim or statement and to express our disagreement. It connects two clauses where the second clause (which contains otherwise) express what would have happened if the action in a first sentence hadn't occurred. Therefore, the correct answer is however. We use however to introduce a statement that expresses contrast with the previous sentence.

What is the connotative meaning of this line from Kurt Vonnegut's "Report on the Barnhouse Effect"?
alukav5142 [94]
When you think about Thanksgiving cooking, typically you think of a rush to get everything done and to put all of the food onto the table so that everyone can eat. There is a tone of rushing and impatience being conveyed. Therefore, I would say that 4 is the most suitable answer. General Barker is clearly in a hurry and is under some stress. I hope this helps.

Read this paragraph from History of Woman Suffrage, Volume I.
fomenos

The correct answer is: Option C. To persuade readers that women deserve the right to vote.

The author begins their statement by introducing a man's point of view in a scenario where women are allowed to vote, and how that would alter their ego and social behaviour. This is done as a means to present a reason for men not to take a policy like that so lightly. The author then, with the final phrase "Let the majority rule", clearly invites the readers to have their voices heard about the matter, expecting these to be raised on favor of women.
