Select the best description of the negative selection process of lymphocyte maturation.

Biology

Answer:

B) removal of lymphocytes that react with "self" cells

Explanation:

By negative selection, we mean to say that the lymphocytes which are reacting with self cells too strongly must undergo apoptosis otherwise they will cause auto-immunity which will lead to destruction of self cells.

Before negative selection, the naive lymphocytes undergo positive selection during which they are allowed to interact with MHC-I or MHC-II. This kind of selection is necessary so as to ensure that the selected lymphocytes have affinity towards MHC molecule for generation of effective immune response whenever it is required. All those cells that do not recognize self antigen undergo apoptosis because they are useless and the lymphocytes which recognize MHC moderately are selected for the next stage which is negative selection.

Once these lymphocytes have passed test for positive selection, they have to undergo test for negative selection. All those lymphocytes which are interacting very strongly with self antigen are rejected and finally undergo apoptosis.

Which of the following best describes how cleaning products like chlorine, hydrogen peroxide, and soap influence the infectious
torisob [31]

Answer:

These cleaning products break apart the capsules of the viruses causing them to no longer be capable of infecting an individual.

Explanation:

Bleach oxidises organic molecules. This causes proteins to become denatured, or lose their shape. The viral capsule containing the DNA is a coat made up of proteins that is required for the virus to become infectious. Therefore, following bleach treatment, the viral protein capsule become oxidised, cause them to loses their shape, meaning the virus can no longer infect individuals.

Which situations would be most likely to engage the anterior cingulate cortex?
maria [59]

Answer:

Which of the following situations would be most likely to engage the anterior cingulate cortex?

A waiter walks over to your table at a restaurant and holds an open menu in front of you.

You walk into the elevator of your apartment building and press the button for your floor.

You enter your classroom and find someone sitting in your usual seat.

A good friend asks you to remind him of your telephone number.

Explanation:

In order to meet the demand of the surrounding environment   by adjusting  the  motor outputs from the brain to the environments ,a part of the emotion control part of the brain( limbic system) called the anterior cingulate cortex is responsible for this.

Anatomically, the limbic system is made up of the primarily the amygdala, hippocampus, thalamus, hypothalamus, basal ganglia and cingulate gyrus.

Based on the this its(anterior cingulate cortex) functions are formation of emotion in the limbic system, and  possessing  of memory and learning.

it is also a major  parts of  of pain networks for pain modulation and perception.

Therefore whenever there is  change in the environment  from the prestored condition in the brain,(e.g the usual seat  in the class room  occupied above) the anterior cingulate cortex adjust the motor input from the brain to adapt to the new environment to take an action, whih in this case  leads to the reclaiming of the seat or any other necessary proactive action.
