Which statement best describes how the author responds to the idea of efficiency? In America and I.

English
1 answer:
Vesnalui [34]2 years ago
4 0

The author rejects the idea of efficiency because she believes that it ignores immigrant workers’ future potential and focuses too much on the bottom line.

Explanation:

In her biography as an immigrant of a poor neighboring place who came to America for a livelihood and express freedom, Anzia Yezierska talks about how she was treated indifferently every single time she tried to prove herself at work, at chores and in her way of life in America. Her abilities were questioned constantly and was told to be an outside though she tries all day to mingle with 'Americans' and learn from them.

When she reads the idea of efficiency, she disregards and rejects the idea as she experienced a contrasting situation to what was supposed to be according to the idea of efficiency. Her ideas to become better and learn English from every person she meets, were criticized. She was asked to be happy with the food that she has to eat and also told that the place where she stays is more than what she deserves.

Read the excerpt below from the poem “Ulalume” by Edgar Allan Poe and answer the question that follows.
Deffense [45]
Alliteration: "<span> as the scoriac Rivers that Roll— As the lavas that Restlessly Roll" (the 'r' sound is being repeated at the beginnings of words)
</span><span>
assonance: "</span><span>In the ultimate climes of the pOle— That grOan as they rOll dOwn MOunt Yaanek In the realms of the bOreal pOle" (the vowel sound "o" is repeated throughout the words)
</span><span>
consonance: "o</span><span>f CypreSS, with PSyche, my Soul" (the consonant "s" sound is repeated at the beginning and ends of words)

These sound devices have a sing-songy effect on the poem which helps create the mystical and mysterious mood. It almost lulls the reader into a type of trance through the memory of the narrator.
</span><span>
imagery: "</span><span>As the lavas that restlessly roll Their sulphurous currents down Yaanek"
</span>
This strong imagery helps to bring the memories to life for the reader  and helps the reader relate to the mindset and the emotions of the narrator by providing images to compare them to. Comparing his heart bursting to the way lava flows down the side of a mountain creates a strong image.
