Isolation is a major theme in Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Which two excerpts best reflect Gregor's isolated condition after

his transformation? He got into the habit of closely watching it for one or two hours before it was opened and then, lying in the darkness of his room where he could not be seen from the living room, he could watch the family in the light of the dinner table and listen to their conversation—with everyone's permission, in a way, and thus quite differently from before. … All of them were usually very quiet nowadays. Soon after dinner, his father would go to sleep in his chair; his mother and sister would urge each other to be quiet; his mother, bent deeply under the lamp, would sew fancy underwear for a fashion shop; his sister, who had taken a sales job, learned shorthand and French in the evenings so that she might be able to get a better position later on. … Gregor never responded to being spoken to in that way, but just remained where he was without moving as if the door had never even been opened. If only they had told this charwoman to clean up his room every day instead of letting her disturb him for no reason whenever she felt like it! … The woman most likely meant to fetch the things back out again when she had time and the opportunity, or to throw everything out in one go, but what actually happened was that they were left where they landed when they had first been thrown unless Gregor made his way through the junk and moved it somewhere else.

Choose the correct end punctuation for this sentence: "Haltingly, she asked him if he would go to prom with her"
Leto [7]

Answer:

The correct option is <u>her?"</u>

Explanation:

The reason for the correct option:

The given sentence is a question, therefore the end punctuation will be question mark. And the sentence is in quotation mark because it was spoken by someone else. Hence, in an interrogative sentence the quotation mark will come after the punctuation.

Reason for incorrect options:

Options: her." and her".

The sentence is a question being asked, which cannot end with fullstop or point; therefore these options are incorrect.

Option: her"?

The punctuation mark that is question mark is correct, but the quotation mark will come after the question mark therefore this option is incorrect.

The following passage is biologist Hope Jahren’s prologue to her 2016 memoir Lab Girl. A prologue is an introduction that provid
bearhunter [10]

Answer: Jahren is a biologist who has a soft spot for leaves, trees and other life giving plant. In Jahren's prologue, she answered people who wanted to know why she didn't study the ocean though she lives in Hawaii. Jahren is concerned about the fate of trees and plants in the world. She believes that a lot of tree are being fell without adequately replacement and that this affects nature.

According to her, each plant or tree that is felled, is an unnecessary death and she doesn't care whether the plants were lacking in one vitamin or whether the plant is big or small. She believes that the first vital step to becoming a scientist is to care, and not necessarily by ones knowledge of biology, physics, or chemistry.

Some rhetorical choices were made when she said "Someone died? and

Maybe I can convince you" while trying to explain why plants should not be unnecessarily killed.
