Answer:

C

Explanation:

“You’ll also rely on these skills to maintain your composure during times when circumstances and emotions might have the ability to influence your behavior.” (Paragraph 10):

To <em>me </em>the third paragraph really does the best job describing the relationship between life skills and independence. By utilizing words in strong sentences like <em>"...these skills to </em><em>maintain </em><em>composure during times....circumstances and emotions....have the ability to influence your behavior." , </em>easily portrays the message in a clean and very accurate way.

Thusly, I would believe that the <u>third quotation</u> (Paragraph 3) or quotation \boxed{{\text{C}}} is the correct answer.

Hope this helps! ((:

2. Review the author’s use of the word “American” throughout Chunk 2. How is the narrator using the word to convey her feelings
Damm [24]

Answer:

Whenever the author uses the word <em>American </em>with quotation marks, it is to ridicule the Americanized people who started believing they are truly American and decided to leave behind their heritage and history. The author, Anzia Yezierska, talks about how she finally moved to America in order to pursue her dreams, happiness, and financial stability, and started living with and working for a family from the same Polish village she comes from. The family completely forgot about where they come from and pretended they were truly American, or rather "American" as Yezierska would put it.

Through this usage, we can see how quickly the author's thoughts and feelings about the "land of freedom" changed. She moved there in order to earn her own money and finally be happy. However, what she encountered was loneliness, misunderstanding, shame, hatred, inadequacy, etc. which she wasn't hoping for. Therefore, her feelings about America shifted from childish exhilaration towards sad acceptance and ultimately hatred.

enot [183]
1. You can see through the comparison to a mountain, that the grandpa is tall and always there 'looming' (hovering) over the speaker. You can see that the speaker does not speak much around his grandpa, as he is "silent as a stone".

2. These details show that the speaker is impressed by his grandpa and looks up to him the way a stone would look up to a mountain-it shows that he hopes one day he will grow to be like his grandpa.

3. The theme of this poem is shown through the way the speaker looks at his grandpa and the shed. The shed needs more than paint because it is so old, which relates to his grandpa and the theme of growing older.
