An important development or discovery in science and medicine due to industrialization was Pasteur’s discovery that disease is spread by bacteria.

In 1861, Pasteur developed a theory which proved that bacteria could cause diseases. Robert Koch used this idea and began to isolate the specific bacteria that caused certain diseases, for example TB and cholera.
