It all depends on the context. Usually, yes, work is less terrible when you know that other people are doing it with you. Would you rather shovel poop alone or with a coworker? If you are with a coworker, at least you aren't doing this gross job by yourself. However, this is not always the case. For example, what if you are a basketball personal trainer. You get plenty of money from the player who hired you, and you're doing a pretty good job. But, what if the player hired a second personal trainer? Then, he splits the money between the two of you. Now, you have to compete with the other trainer to see which one stays with the job. Plus, you get less money now with the other trainer.

I strongly agree because it feels better to do things with people than alone, but if you prefer to do things alone than there is nothing wrong with that either.
