Read this excerpt from Rudyard Kipling's novel Kim in which Kim responds to the lama's questions. Then complete the sentences th

at follow.
"So they made the triple trial of strength against all comers. And at the test of the Bow, our Lord first breaking that which they gave Him, called for such a bow as none might bend. Thou knowest?"

"It is written. I have read."

"And, overshooting all other marks, the arrow passed far and far beyond sight. At the last it fell; and, where it touched earth, there broke out a stream which presently became a River, whose nature, by our Lord's beneficence, and that merit He acquired ere He freed himself, is that whoso bathes in it washes away all taint and speckle of sin."

. . .

"If I knew, think you I would not cry it aloud?"

"By it one attains freedom from the Wheel of Things," the lama went on, unheeding. "The River of the Arrow! Think again! Some little stream, maybe—dried in the heats? But the Holy One would never so cheat an old man."

"I do not know. I do not know."

The lama is looking for "The River of the Arrow" because
(1. he thinks he will be purified spiritually when he finds it)
(2. he thinks he will find his master on it's banks)
(3. he believes his master's grave lies on its banks)
(4. he believes he will see God when he finds it)

The excerpt shows that
(1. Kim is under the lama's spell and eager to help him find the river)
(2. Kim has no regard for the lama and does not listen to him)
(3.Kim is eager to show the lama he does not know where the river is located)
(4. Kim thinks the lama's story is true and listens with interest so he can find the river for himself)

The correct answer for the first question: The lama is looking for "The River of the Arrow" because would be option 1. "He thinks he will be purified spiritually when he finds it". This is showed in the excerpt when the lama says "By it one attains freedom from the Wheel of things", meaning he wants to be free of his sins and thinks the river is going to help him achieve it. He does not give a reference as to god being the reason he wants to find the river therefore options 2,3 and 4 are incorrect.

The correct answer for the second question: The excerpt shows that would be option 3. "Kim is eager to show the lama he does not know where the river is located". This is shown in the excerpt when he repeatedly says that he does not know the location, for example " If I knew, think you I would not cry it aloud?". Option 1, 2 and 4 are incorrect because Kim does not appear under the lama's spell, he does listen to him, and has not expressed an interest in the river's powers.

One of Tom's last acts is to _____.
sukhopar [10]
I believe you are referring to Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. One of Tom's last act is to forgive Quimbo and Sambo. Quimbo and Sambo were ordered by Legree to beat up Tom mercilessly. However, they realize their wrongdoing and decide to heal Tom's wound. Tom then tells them they can still be saved by Jesus' grace.

Read this excerpt from a speech given at a city council meeting:
mr Goodwill [35]

Hello. You forgot to enter the answer options. The options are:

"A. Change "razor thin" to "extremely tiny."  B. Change "voted out of office" to "removed from their current positions."  C. Change "don't have the money" to "do not make enough profit."  D. Change "definitely not the way to go" to "a completely worthless idea."

Answer:

C. Change "don't have the money" to "do not make enough profit."

Explanation:

The expression "has no money" does not provide accurate and consistent information with a formal language text, when that text refers to the economic conditions of an establishment. "Not having money" is not an economic term that fits the context of the text, which should only use economic terms to maintain the formal tone of the writing.

In this case, the best way to replace this expression and provide a more formal tone would be through the expression "do not make enough profit", which justifies the statement given by the author and maintains the formal tone of the writing.
