Answer: The motif addressed in both forms of poetry is nature.

Explanation: A Motif is a symbolism that is repeated throughout the poem in different forms. The poem "Wine of the Fairies" by Percy Bysshe Shelley, and the majority of the haikus (Japanese poems) by Buson, use the motifs of nature and fantasy, mentioning fairies, flowers, seasons, and more. We can see this in the haiku "Natsukawa wo/ Kosu ureshisa yo/ Te ni zori", by Buson, where we can see verses such as:

The summer river.

It’s happy to walk across it.

My hands with zori sandal.

Likewise, in "Wine of the Fairies" Shelley describes his love for these elements when being drunk in the lines: "Which fairies catch in hyacinth bowls." "And when ’tis spilt on the summer earth", "Of the fairies bear those bowls so new!"

Which parts of this excerpt from John Bunyan's The Pilgrim’s Progress show that the central character is devoutly religious and
Maurinko [17]
In my opinion, these parts show that the central character (Christian) is devoutly religious and God-fearing: <span>Because I fear that this burden is upon my back will sink me lower than the grave, and I shall fall into Tophet [Isa. 30:33] And, Sir, if I be not fit to go to prison, I am not fit, I am sure, to go to judgement, and from thence to execution; and the thoughts of these things make me cry. Christian has experienced first-hand that life is cruel and difficult. It would be far too easy to give up on life and embrace death, but he also knows that there is one thing worse than death, and that is hell. If he were to give up, he would end up in hell. So, he is willing to go down the path of salvation, with the help of Evangelist. This part also shows it: </span><span>Whither must I fly? It means that he is humble enough to obediently follow the path that Evangelist shows him. "The Pilgrim's Progress" shows us a central character who is weak and pliable just like most of people. He often errs and goes astray, and it's his humility and commitment that give him enough courage to follow Evangelist's guidance.</span>

GuDViN [60]

Answer:

I think that this quote is trying to describe that the traditions that have been passed down and used time and time again by the 'primitive' will forever be more tangible. Because when he says "the fantasy of modern times" it's almost like he is claiming that they are just ideas and wishes and wants for this more modern society and way of living, whereas, with the "lore of the primitive" these normal methods of survival have been used and proven effective over again. A good comparison to that phrase could be, "if it ain't broke don't fix it", which is essentially what I think that Anton Chekhov was trying to say.

eimsori [14]

In this excerpt from the play The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus, the line that provides evidence that Faustus's human soul is predisposed to shun evil is the second one:

But, Mephistophilis, My blood congeals,

and I can write no more.

This line, as Marlowe uses blood as a symbol for the character of Faustus's soul, shows the reader his intention to avoid evil, but he feels he can't because it "<em>congeals</em>".
