Increases in employment rates were widespread for all categories, especially women having responsibilities of young children. A significant aspect of social reform in the United States has been the educational advancement of the female population. In addition, decreases in fertility rates, as well as reductions in family size increased childlessness, and delayed childbearing has allowed many women to seek job opportunities outside the home. African Americans filled many vacancies left by their white counterparts and it had helped to improve their social status.
