Read this excerpt from Holes. The judge called Stanley's crime despicable. "The shoes were valued at over five thousand dollars.

It was money that would provide food and shelter for the homeless. And you stole that from them, just so you could have a souvenir." The judge said that there was an opening at Camp Green Lake, and he suggested that the discipline of the camp might improve Stanley's character. It was either that or jail. Stanley's parents asked if they could have some time to find out more about Camp Green Lake, but the judge advised them to make a quick decision. "Vacancies don't last long at Camp Green Lake." Why does Sachar include this description of Stanley's trial? to show the reader that Stanley should have had a lawyer to show the reader that Camp Green Lake is a popular destination to show the reader how unfairly Stanley is treated by people of authority to show the reader how valuable Clyde Livingston's shoes actually were

Which conflicts occur in this passage? Select three
saul85 [17]

Read the passage from "By the Waters of Babylon.”

How can I tell what it was like—you do not know. It was there, in the red light, and they were too big to be houses. It was there with the red light upon it, mighty and ruined. I knew that in another moment the gods would see me. I covered my eyes with my hands and crept back into the forest.

Surely, that was enough to do, and live. Surely it was enough to spend the night upon the cliff. The Forest People themselves do not come near. Yet, all through the night, I knew that I should have to cross the river and walk in the places of the gods, although the gods ate me up. My magic did not help me at all and yet there was a fire in my bowels, a fire in my mind. When the sun rose, I thought, "My journey has been clean. Now I will go home from my journey." But, even as I thought so, I knew I could not. If I went to the Place of the Gods, I would surely die, but, if I did not go, I could never be at peace with my spirit again. It is better to lose one's life than one's spirit, if one is a priest and the son of a priest.

Which conflicts occur in this passage? Select three options.

1) Character vs. nature: The narrator must conquer the challenges of the landscape to visit the Place of the Gods.

2) Character vs. character: The narrator must face the Forest People, since they live directly on the route to the Place of the Gods.

3) Character vs. self: The narrator must convince himself that just seeing the Place of the Gods from a distance is not enough.

4) Character vs. society: The narrator must go to the Place of the Gods to satisfy his spirit because he is a priest’s son and must follow his father’s teachings.

5) Character vs. self: The narrator is overwhelmed with fear of what he sees coming from the Place of the Gods and momentarily retreats.

Answer:

The conflicts that occur in the passage are

1) Character vs. self

2) Character vs. society

3) Character vs. self

Explanation:

There are three conflicts that occur in the passage:

1) Character vs. self: The narrator must try and make himself go to the Place of the Gods so he can be at peace with himself because viewing or seeing it froom afar is not enough for him.

2) Character vs. society: Another conflict that the narrator has it that he must visit the Place of the Gods because <u>"if one is a priest and the son of a priest. "</u> which shows that his father was a priest and he must follow his father's teachings.

3) Character vs. self: He is also scared for himself as he said <u>"If I went to the Place of the Gods, I would surely die..."</u> He wants to visit the Place of the Gods but he is scared for his life.

A Very Important Event In My Life

Many times people do not remember their daily activities, but if something unexpected or remarkable happens, it can be memorable for the rest of their lives. Am sure that everyone has an event that is memorable in their lives or even others have some events that they do not want to remember because they would remind them of old scars that that makes tears run down. There are good memories that regularly make us happy when we talk or share them with anyone. As creatures that have lived on this planet one should be having a memorable or bad event. Sometimes in one’s life there are some events that teach one a certain lesson and end up becoming a fundamental guideline in life. Life is loaded with startling shocks. There are numerous open doors when one can furtively wish for something energizing to happen like something strange. This paper seeks to narrate an important event that happened in my life and still today it still rings in my mind.

The most critical occasion in my life has been going to MASC’s late spring authority camp in 2005 and 2006. Those ten days were maybe the most helpful days of my life. MASC remains for Missouri Relationship of Understudy Chambers. Since I joined our school’s Understudy Committee my senior year, I had the chance to go to their late spring camp. When I touched base, as a Level 1 camper, I was overpowered by the various insane and active campers. I didn’t know how I would fit in since I was modest around new individuals. Everybody was part into twenty six unique chambers. I was in chamber ‘M’. That week transformed me from a shy, new student Board member to a person who was totally fine with acting naturally and certain for his first year in student council. The main significant occasion was the Olympics. Each of the twenty six councils met up and took part in various recreations. This was the point at which our council first genuinely reinforced and brought me out of my customary range of familiarity. I figured out how imperative collaboration is and how to grasp everybody’s distinctive abilities. I am an exceptionally focused individual, however amid that night; I understood that it did not make a difference who won. All that made a difference was the recollections being made. Another action we did, that majorly affected me, was the show. Every committee made a farce to a well known tune and sang it before the whole camp.

Overall these two events were and are still memorable in my life. At times people do not remember their daily activities, but if something unexpected or remarkable happens, it can be memorable for the rest of their lives. Just like me everyone has an event that is memorable in their lives or even others have some events that they do not want to remember because they would remind them of old scars that that makes tears run down.

How would you more sustainable in your daily life ?
raketka [301]

You can be more sustainable in daily life by buying products that don't have excess packaging, turning the lights off when you leave a room, taking shorter showers, and carpooling/biking/using public transportation instead of driving.
