Answer:

no one knows for sure, where the Aztecs came from , except the mystical place called Aztlan.

There are many theories says they came from pacific coasr others the north of Mexico, but in reality we aren't certain.

probably because most of the time, the Aztecs were a semi nomad poblation, because they're were thrown from everywhere

According to the legend their main God Huitchilopostly, send them to leave Aztlan and seek for a better place to live. after an undefined time, they arrived to a valley, whats today Mexico city.

obviously the fertile are were occupied by the more powerful tribes, the ones aztects had to pay a high fee to about being destroyed. They weren't welcome at any place because they got costumes barbarics and their warlike character.

Even while living in the valley, they live in many places until were forced to move to the back of the swamp. the most interesting part is, in that part where they finally find the sign they were looking for , an eagle standing on a cactus eating a snake.

their leader, named Tenoch, that's why the city they founded was called Tenochtitlan, in the year of 1325.

in the following years, the Aztecs who called themselves Mexicas, dedicated to build their city and be stronger nation. Due to fights and alainces, the Mexicas and their alliances position themselves the strongest group in Mexico valley and their city of Tenochtitlan, with a population of 200,000. was the city most poblation not only in city but in the whole world.
