You can see clearly here that they wanted to send to boy to his grandma so that both them and he could live a little bit better, however, they couldn't manage to set aside even that little money to send him away.

Why do you think pastoralism arose in the same time period as naturalism despite their different themes or approaches to literat
Amanda [17]
Romantic ideals in the early to mid-nineteenth century were shattered by the Civil War. Americans grew disillusioned by the war. They didn't agree with the glorious depiction of war that romantic literature tried to capture, both during and after the war. Nicki dashed up the shore and into the forest not stopping to think. She could feel the footsteps behind her the nameless thugs
Genrish500 [490]

Answer:

The second statement in the given excerpt illustrates that Nicki is a round character.

Explanation:

This is because she is feeling the footsteps of the thugs and also is able to think about their behaviour or character. She can compare their characteristics with the sacks of sugar because it can be bought and sold. She is not indulging into deep thinking by stopping in the woods. Rather she knows and thinks while moving forward and figuring out what to do.
