“All through that summer, the work of the farm went like clockwork. The animals were happy as they had never conceived it possib

le to be. Every mouthful of food was an acute positive pleasure, now that it was truly their own food, produced by themselves and for themselves, not doled out to them by a grudging master. With the worthless parasitical human beings gone, there was more for everyone to eat.”
The author uses the phrase “like clockwork” to show that …
-The harvest on Animal Farm went well
-The animals were being overworked
-The animals were so happy to be rid of human control
-The work on the farm was organized and going smoothly

What is the connotative meaning of this line from Kurt Vonnegut's "Report on the Barnhouse Effect"?

When you think about Thanksgiving cooking, typically you think of a rush to get everything done and to put all of the food onto the table so that everyone can eat. There is a tone of rushing and impatience being conveyed. Therefore, I would say that 4 is the most suitable answer. General Barker is clearly in a hurry and is under some stress. I hope this helps.

Write a minimum 150-word response in which you explain the poet's use of extended metaphor in "Cloud." Be sure to cite examples
Allisa [31]

The poem "The Cloud" by Percy Bysshe Shelley employs an extended metaphor, as it compares a cloud to life throughout the whole poem.

The cloud is meant to stand for the cycle of nature, or the unending cycle of life. Through the many cycles and transformations that the cloud endures, Shelley wants to represent the never ending cycle of birth, death and rebirth that all beings on Earth go through. The poem, therefore, focuses on the mutability of nature as the only constant in the physical world. Moreover, this allows the author to also employ the cloud as a symbol of the many changes that humans undergo throughout their lives.
