Dear friend.

Imagine him receiving that message has been the only happiness in my life. I don't know you, nor do you know me, but if fate has allowed you to find my message, it's because you need to know about me and help, if not me, other victims like me.

I find myself trapped in the basement of the sadistic, mad, murderous General Zaroff. I arrived here after my ship wreck survived. I came in search of help, but I only received despair and panic. The general hunts me like an animal, plotting my death all the time. I can no longer sleep, and control my nerves, I live on the edge of insanity all the time and I believe that my days of life will be short if I remain here, or if I throw myself into the sea, trying in vain to escape my captivity.

I'm afraid of suffering at the hands of Zaroff, I'm afraid of a slow and painful death, but my biggest fear is that this rascal will get away with his actions.

Please take this letter to the authorities and help an unfortunate person like me.

grandymaker [24]

Line in this excerpt from Amy Lowell's "Lilacs" that emphasizes consonance is

Because my leaves are of it

Explanation:

The poem "Lilacs' employs consonance liberally throughout the poem and almost every line has an example due to the refrain of the phrases that is present in the poem, first through 'new England' and then through the phrase of 'are in it'

Consonance is the use of consonant sounds that are similar in close proximity to each other. This is evident in the given line which has almost all the same sounds which is the sound of 'cause' and 'leav' that repeat twice in the line of 7 syllables.

1. Which of these activities is the best example of cunning?
prohojiy [21]

I think this is right but I'm not sure but I'll try my best

1) D because cunning refers to skill in deceit and trickery, and telling a convincing lie is the only option that involves both skill and deceit.

2) D because to speak to somebody in confidence means that you want to be confident that the information shared is between the group you share confidence with. Nurse wishes to speak to Romeo in confidence that he will not tell anybody because it is a secret and she wishes only for Romeo to know.

3) B because to counter something means to go against that thing. An example is a counter-argument, or an argument against another argument.

4) B because that is the act against someone. All the other options demonstrate a command, but not a countermand, if you get my gist.

5) A (i think) because the decision to get married was an unwise and hasty decision made of young lust, and ulimately caused the great tragedy. If Romeo and Juliet had taken things slower, things might've been possible renegotiated or at least thought over.

6) B because Friar Lawrence is really Romeo's 'father figure' because his father is so often absent in his life. He acts as a mentor and tries to help Romeo get married to his love.
