Quindlen links the conclusion to the introduction of her essay with the words "like many improbable ideas, when it works, it's a wonder", which is very close to her claim in the overall text, "America is an Improbable idea", it isn't supposed to work but it does despite all of the differences, specifically racial or ethnic, within it.

that the author decided to begin passage 2 with a description of the city in
order to immerse the reader in the
environment and the conditions in which babbitts are. The writer only wants to
emphasize that a situation in which babbitts are, somehow has a connection with
the area in which they are located, that is the city.</span>
They can investigate about the topic being persuaded about throughout multiple different sources, they can not act on a whim and be like hey that sounds cool lets do it.
