Read the excerpt from "Daughter of Invention". Yoyo didn't need much encouragement. She put her nose to the fire, as her mother

would have said, and read from start to finish without looking up. When she concluded, she was a little embarrassed at the pride she took in her own words. She pretended to quibble with a phrase or two, then looked questioningly to her mother. Laura's face was radiant. Yoyo turned to share her pride with her father. What does the underlined idiom tell the reader about Yoyo?

I encountered this question before. The underlined idiom was "SHE PUT HER NOSE TO THE FIRE". This question also had choices. These were:

She was cold as she wrote her speech, so she sat by the fire.
She worked hard to finish her speech for the assembly.
She was proud of the speech once she finished it.
She finished the speech in a very short amount of time.

The underlined idiom tells the reader that SHE FINISHED THE SPEECH IN A VERY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.

When you put your nose to the fire, you don't last long because of the heat. Thus, you only spend a short amount of time putting your nose to the fire.

How might chief lobengula khumalo respond to kipling's poem?
morpeh [17]
He might respond by resenting by being called a burden by people who are stealing his land. In the poem, kipling is actually addressing the United States and its colonization of the philipines. However, his words were also understood as attitudes that expressed the desire for imperialism to drive Africa. Chief Lobengula neggotiated with associates of Ceci rhodes and agreed to what was presented to him as limited mining rights in his territory

alexandr1967 [171]
I am going to say that the best answers are going to be: 2. Before it could fall to the snow, the spittle crackled; 6. The freezing had to great a start on him, and...he would soon be stiff and dead; 5. The following instant, the end of his nose went numb; 1. Day had broken cold and gray, exceedingly cold and gray. Hope that is answer is on point, this time.

Generalizations, Conclusions, and Inferences (Part 1) Determine if each statement is a reasonable generalization that can be mad
mezya [45]

Inference is a logical conclusion based on the information provided, while generalization takes that conclusion and applies it to other similar situations. Based on those definitions, we can determine if each of the statements is a rasonable generalization or not.

"The sibling rivalry is due to the arrival of a newborn baby in the house" is neither an inference nor a generalization. There is no indication in the text of a new baby.

"The speaker is from a large family" cannot be inferred either, as the narrator only mentions one sibling.

"The speaker loves the brother" is a fair inference based on the text. The narrator mentions that her brother means the world to her, so this statement is a logical conclusion.

"The brother gets into trouble often" is not a reasonable inference nor generalizatino. The only information provided is that he insists on reading his sister's diary.

"The speaker believes others feel the same way as the speaker about their diaries" is the only reasonable generalization. The narrator assumes that by telling her brother her diary is boring, he won't want to read it. That he is only interested in knowing her secrets. Therefore, she thinks others view diaries the same way she does.

How do Prometheus in Jupiter's actions develop a theme of the text
attashe74 [19]

How do Prometheus’ and Jupiter’s actions develop a theme of the text

Answer:

A theme of “The Story of Prometheus” is authority and resistance.

Explanation:

Prometheus´ character expresses the needed uprising against tyrannical power, despite the possibility of being punished. Jupiter symbolizes the corrupted social institutions that oppress the people, while Prometheus signifies the power of those who confront corrupt authorities.
