Answer:

The two lines from Passage 1 which suggest that the Statue of Liberty is a symbol of freedom and refuge are:

"Line 10: With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor..."

"Line 14: I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Explanation:

Emma Lazarus wrote his poem titled "The New Colossus" (1883), where he depicted the Statue of Liberty as the "Mother of Exiles" and a refuge of freedom. Commissioned to raise funds for the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, Emma's poem illustrated the Statue of Liberty as a welcoming symbol to all immigrants from around the world.

Read Abraham Lincoln’s “A Fragment on Slavery.” What is the main idea of this passage? If A can prove, however conclusively, tha
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

B. Arguments in favor of slavery are senseless.

Lincoln demonstrates int eh passage that every argument for the existence of slavery as it stood in the US could be easily countered or reversed. This shows that the arguments for slavery were weak and "senseless".

Lincoln belong to the Free-Soil Party before the Republican Party was created. Free-Soilers did not want slavery to extend any further than it had already existed in the 1850's. Essentially they didn't want it to go into the new territories. They believed that slavery was a dying institution and if not allowed to grow it would smother itself out. As Lincoln became president, his views began to include more of a moral stance suggesting enslaving another person was wrong.

Explanation:

The 1979 Nobel Prize winners for Medicine, Sir Godfrey Hounsfield and Allan Cormack won the prize "for the development of computer-assisted tomography."

This is evident in the fact that Sir Godfrey Hounsfield was an English Electrical Engineer, while Allan Cormack was widely known as a South African American physicist.

They both come together to "develop computer-assisted tomography" which is used to provide detailed information about the structure and anatomy of human organs.

The Northville School Board has proposed this budget for the upcoming school year:
elena-s [515]

Answer:

Explanation:

Going through & comparing both the proposed budget with the revised budget, we observe 2 changes. We notice that 5% was reduced from purchase of new musical instruments for the music department and that upgrade of computer lab hardware was increased by 5%. As the revised budget is the final budget, we see that in it the board opted to have more computer hardware instead of new instruments for the music department. In so doing, Northville Schoolpurchased more computer hardware at the expense of new instruments.

Opportunity cost refers to the "cost" incurred by foregoing the advantage associated with the best alternative choice to get something else. In this case, the Northville School Board passed up the opportunity to get new instruments & instead opted to upgrade the computer lab hardware. Therefore, the opportunity cost for computer lab hardware upgrade is the purchase new instruments.
