Thrush, Bush
Eye rhyme is when two words look like they should rhyme because they are spelled the same. However, the words do not actually rhyme because they are not pronounced the same. Thrush and bush both have the same ush spelling at the end. Thrush is pronounced with a short u /uh/ sound. Whereas bush has a short /oo/ sound.
Bough and Plough both have the "ow" sound. Shrill and hill both have the short /i/ sound. Shed and bred both have the short /e/ sound.
There are many literary devices used in the plot development of <em>Things Fall Apart</em>; let's remember that we call a <em>literary device</em> all those tools an author use to convey his/her ideas and points in a story.
One of the tools used by Achebe in this text is irony. One example of this is Okonkwo's suicide at the end. After saying he could survive everything, you don't expect him to do it.
Another literary device the author uses is foreshadowing. This happens when an event or action hits at a future event or action. This is used, for example, when Okonkwo falls into depression after being exiled to his motherland for killing a clansman and, at the end he commites suicide. This depression meant more for him that any other event and changed his destiny.
Symbolism is other used tool in this story when referred to a man's ability to grow yams. It is directly tied to his manhood and how others see him as a man. In this particular case, the yam is the major symbol of masculinity.
Most people think that dogs are a mans best friend, but cats are just as loved as dogs are. Many people across the world love cats and love the positivity that they spread. Just like dogs, cats are loyal companions who will try their best to help their owner.
A parallel that can be traced about the excerpt from Enrique's Journey that appears in the book Children of the Drug Wars by author Damon Barett and the information about migrating without the parents of Central America to North America is that the abandonment of these children by part of their parents or guardians is a great motivation for them not to return to their country of origin but to keep going north. The escape of a violent past and abandonment with the parents serves as an incentive for these children to travel to the north of the American continent
