Answer:

The author uses anaphoras, free verse and personification

Explanation:

The style and technique used by Carl Salsburg in this poem is a free verse style, using anaphoras to create emphasis and personification.

To use free verse means that within the poem, there is no regular rhyme scheme or meter.

Also, anaphoras are a form of creating emphasis in the poem, by repeating certain verses like "Shovel them under and let me work, I am the grass; I cover all."  Similarly, the author enlists some battlefields across Europe, using the same format. "Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo. And pile them high at Gettysburg, And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun. " Without the constant repetition, the reader may overlook the focal point of the poem.

Last, the personification of the grass in the poem. By talking like a person and acting out, the grass creates symbolism with emotional meaning.  It is about life after death, the constant change of life and the forgetfulness.

Without all these elements the poem wouldn't have the meaning that it does, the depth that the author communicates.

B. They employ figurative language

Both of these excerpts engage the reader by making the text come alive. The first employs a metaphor when it says "<span>In other words, he took the tortillas out of his poetry, which is to say he took the soul out of his poetry". This metaphor is comparing the heritage in his friend's writing to a tortilla which then he extends into comparing to their souls.
The second piece employs imagery and personification when he describes "</span><span>the tall American trees were dangling their thick branches right down over his head", showing that the trees are coming alive to show his friend that they are part of his heritage.</span>

In at least 100 words, describe how Thomas Paine uses personification as a rhetorical technique in The American Crisis. Use evid
JulijaS [17]

Answer and Explanation:

Paine uses personification to show how America has the capacity to be happy to get rid of foreign domination. As we know America is a continent (although Paine is referring to the country, USA) and therefore it is an inanimate being, but the ability to be happy is something unique to living beings. When Paine uses this ability to describe a state of America, he is using personification to show how happy American citizens will be with an independent and self-sufficient America that can tackle its own challenges without being dependent on anyone, being happy.
