Which demonstrative pronoun best completes this sentence?

Answer: D. Estos

Carla: Estos aquí.

Translation: These here.

Explanation: in Spanish there are several demonstrative pronouns characterized by the distance to the object. They have a gender and number mark. "Platos" is a masculine, plural, noun.

here, masculine singular → este, aquí: this.

here, masculine plural → estos, aquí: these.

here, feminine singular → esta, aquí: this.

here, feminine plural → estas, aquí: these.

there, masculine singular → ese, allí: that.

there, masculine plural → esos, allí: those.

there, feminine singular → esa, allí: that.

there, feminine plural → esas, allí: those.

over there, masculine singular → aquel, allá: that over there.

over there, masculine plural → aquellos, allá: those over there.

over there, feminine singular → aquella, allá: that over there.

over there, feminine plural → aquellas, allá: those over there.

In addition to this, the Royal Spanish Academy, the highest authority of the Spanish language, has recommended since 2010, to dispense with written accents in demonstrative pronouns.

stira [4]

Answer: Imperfect Tense (Preterite)

Explanation:

The Imperfect Tense (Preterite) is one of the two forms of simple past in Spanish, and it is used to:

- talk about past habitual actions (adding used to in its different forms)

- describe what someone was doing when it was interrupted by someone (or something) else. In fact, is more a combination of the past tense and a continuous or repeating aspect. Frequently, this includes a sense of incompletion in the verb, but not always. (Is the equivalent to the Past Progresive Tense in english)

In other words:

It is specially used to describe what used to happen or what was happening.

In this sentence we are talking about two simultaneous facts: (1) the arrival of the ambulance and (2) the dizziness of the husband.

Cuando llegó la ambulancia, el esposo estaba mareado

When the ambulance arrived, the husband was dizzy

Note the husband was dizzy is an action that was taking place at that time in the past when the ambulance arrived.

That is why the verb estar (to be) is written in imperfect tense as estaba (was).
