Answer:

Explanation:

Melville’s story is an allegory that conveys his criticism of Christian missionaries. Melville uses several biblical, scientific, mythological, and historical allusions to build his allegory. The lightning-rod man represents Christian missionaries, while the narrator represents Melville’s beliefs. According to him, missionaries are displacing and destroying the cultures they are attempting to convert rather than bringing them true spirituality. Although the narrator isn’t influenced by the lightning-rod man, he is saddened and worried to see his neighbors fall prey to the missionaries' trap. The narrator tries to dissuade his neighbors from believing in the lightning-rod man, who continues to thrive as he “trades with the fears of men.” Unlike many others of the time period, Melville believes in being God-loving, not God-fearing. :) Hope this helped.

What would be the best thesis statement for an evaluation of Dan DeLuca's argument in "Dylan's Nobel Prize Settles Debate: Rock
vaieri [72.5K]

Answer:

Despite his passionate argument that rock lyrics are poetry, Dan DeLuca fails to convince.

Explanation:

According to a different source, these are the options that come with this question:

  • When Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature, it sparked a major controversy.
  • Dan DeLuca has written an editorial stating his opinion that rock lyrics are poetry.
  • I really enjoyed reading Dan DeLuca's article about Bob Dylan winning the Nobel Prize.
  • Despite his passionate argument that rock lyrics are poetry, Dan DeLuca fails to convince.

A thesis statement is the main claim that an author makes in a text. This claim expresses the ideas that the author wants to defend, and which he expands on in the rest of the text. Therefore, a thesis statement needs to express a clear opinion, or take a particular position on a subject. In this case, the option that does this is option D.
