The Mughal Empire is the "gunpowder empire" that conquered India in the 16th century. The Mughal empire was originally Muslim, and this meant that the population was religiously diverse.

Although there was some conflict at the beginning of the empire, the government eventually reached stability, particularly during the reign of Akbar. He expanded the empire and consolidated its power. Akbar encouraged cultural developments, as well as allowing for freedom of religion. This was an attempt to resolve the political and religious differences of India, and it contributed to the preservation of the cultural differences among different regions.
