"The basic narrative fuel is always the slow unveiling of the final answer." - "A Simple Way to Create Suspense," by: Lee Child.

Sample Response: Child developed the idea that suspense is created when people want to know answers and have to wait to find them out. He gave anecdotes about real situations in which people stayed interested when they didn’t have answers. He also used the strategy in his article by suggesting questions and tricking the reader into continuing to read to find out the answers.

I think it is still connected to his other statement, "<span>So don’t bake cakes. Make your family hungry instead." Like his other quote, it supports that you don't give it all to the reader or the audience. To create their attachment with the story, information should leave them questioning and imagining at the same time. The suspense comes in and lead them to the answer.

Read the excerpt below and answer the question. Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box,
Sonbull [250]

Answer:

Backstory.

Explanation:

The references to stones in the story "The Lottery" creates the backstory of the whole story. The ritual of the lottery wherein a member of a particular household is stoned to death is like an annual sport stemming from Mr. Joe Summer's free time. Even though the villagers no longer remember the relevance of the rituals associated with the 'lottery', they still remember to use stones for the killings. And it was with stones that they used to hurl at Tessie Hutchinson, the unlucky victim of the lottery draw which her own husband had marked the slip the previous night.

Should everyone speak english? Rough draft 100 words
charle [14.2K]
Short answer: No.

Long answer:

We shouldn't force everyone to speak english, because while it is easier for people to communicate if they all speak the same language, there will still be some problems. Language allows us to have another way to differentiate between people groups, and is a part of the culture of each people group. Language in itself, because of it's diversity, can show what each culture believes in, what the set rules are, as well as how they interact, and using language, what they can build. Language also serves as a diversify of production of items. If everybody spoke the same language, while there will be technology advancement, we will not be able to see how different groups (language groups specifically) handle the same problems. While it is good to be at least bilingual, i believe that not everyone should speak english.

The pun is related to the same pronunciation of the words <em>Ernest</em> and <em>earnest </em>which means<em> serious commited, dedicated </em>and etc. The pun is connected to the serious issue of choosing the right significant other, someone you can trust that is dedicated to you (<em>an earnest husband/wife</em>).<em> </em>
