Answer:

Anticleia is explaining why Odysseus cannot embrace her.

Explanation:

When Odysseus went to the land of the dead in Book XI of "The Odyssey", he also met his mother Anticleia's soul. He wasn't aware of her presence until he finished his meeting with the seer. Once he sees her, they tried to embrace thrice but failed because she was no longer blood and bones. The provided passage is that of Anticleia explaining why Odysseus cannot embrace her, saying that "<em>This is no deception sent by Queen Persephone, this is just the way of mortals when we die. Sinews no longer bind the flesh and bones together – . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . the spirit rustling, flitters away . . . flown like a dream</em>".

Yakvenalex [24]

A miller’s daughter dies in her bed, weakened from lack of food.

Another “poor, hunger-starved beggar boy” is found in the street and carried into a house, where he dies.

A four-year-old local boy dies “for want of food and means,” as does his mother.

You hear the story of a man leaving his home and walking hundreds of miles in search of work or food and returning after a couple of months with sufficient money only to find that his wife and children have all since died.

These four are clear explicit examples of starvation during Elizabethian times, since England faced hard times during Elizabethian times, since the population grew larger by a third, and the resources stayed the same, they had to divide the same products between more people.

blagie [28]

One traditional story we tell is of the annual reappearance of a su!cide at a crossroads near their place of death. If they speak, it is only about going home. You see, long ago people believed a su!cide would go to Heaven only in special circumstances. Otherwise, they went to Hell. Until it was decided, they would wander the earth, ever at a crossroads, seeking a way home. Where they would finally go was decided by two ghoulish figures, one white, one black, playing dice for the su!cide’s soul.
