Read the excerpt from The Hot Zone. There she met Lieutenant Colonel Trotter, a stocky, dark-haired man whom Nancy had worked wi

th for many years. They put on their inner gloves and taped their cuffs. Nancy put a pair of hearing protectors over her ears. She had started wearing them a while back, when people had begun to suspect that the roar of air in your suit might be loud enough to damage your hearing. They hauled on their space suits and sealed the Ziploc zippers. They edged around each other as they fiddled with their suits. People wearing biohazard space suits tend to step around one another like two wrestlers at the beginning of a match, watching the other person's every move, especially watching the hands to make sure they don't hold a sharp object. This cringing becomes instinctive. Which best states the central idea of this excerpt?
A. It is always necessary to work with a partner when dealing with unidentified substances.
B. Extreme precautions must be taken when dealing with potentially hazardous materials.
C. Scientists are well known for being overly cautious and for taking unnecessary safety measures.
D. It is standard procedure to wear both space suits and hearing protectors in laboratories.

From the excerpt given above it can be seen that the major theme of the passage is about necessary precautions that must be taken during space travelling. This can be seen from the sentences used in the passage such as:' putting on inner hand gloves, using ear protectors, putting on biohazard space suits, etc.  It can be seen from the passage that extreme precautions have to be taken when dealing with potentially dangerous materials, therefore the correct option is B.

Lesechka [4]

Answer:

present-tense narration

In present-tense narration, there is a sense of urgency used because it is used to tell a story that is happening in-the--moment thereby giving the reader a sense of immediacy.

In "Spanish Dancer" by Rainer Maria RIlke, this style of narration is employed thus:

<u>"And all at once it is completely fire. </u>

<u> One upward glance and she ignites her hair </u>

<u>and, whirling faster and faster, fans her dress </u>

<u>into passionate flames, till it becomes a furnace </u>

<u>from which, like startled rattlesnakes, the long </u>

<u>naked arms uncoil, aroused and clicking."</u>

Viktor [21]

Answer:

B) You should always tell people how you feel.

Explanation:

Even though it may seem something difficult to do, especially to timid or introvert people, telling your feelings will always be better than keep them. By telling, you let others to understand you and keep missinterpretations out of the question. Also, it will help to <u>liberate the stressful weight</u> of having them inside.
