Under Stalin, the property and land became collectivized which meant that land owners couldn't dictate what the production would be like or what the prices would be like. This made life better for poorer people and was a step towards abolishing classes, but the rich people often suffered because they would be banished or imprisoned or things like that and they would have their properties taken away from them.

During Stalin's dictatorship, the government took more and more control of Soviet life and economy. The collectivization of agriculture resulted in the deaths of millions of peasants, as a result of famine. The Great Purge occurred as Stalin tried to eliminate any opposition to his rule. Millions of citizens were arrested. Most had done nothing wrong, yet they were convicted of crimes and even executed. Others were sent to prison camps called gulags. Most people lived in terror of the secret police, as described in the reading.

The illegal voting would have been stopped or a least greatly reduced with the implementation of proper voter registration and state IDs. Of course, with the rudimentary technology of the era, falsification of ID documents would have been relatively easier than it is today. However IDs and voter registration would have presented an additional obstacle to border ruffians.

The violence would only have been stopped by the concourse of a national guard, a state police and civil deputies from the state protecting voter, voting locations and the transportation of ballots.
