The plot of "Editha" is woven around opinions and quirks of character rather than any particular event. The story begins with the impetus of the war. The propaganda in the newspapers shapes Editha’s vehement belief in the war. Although George, her fiancé does not subscribe to the same view, he is convinced by the emotional appeals she makes. Editha’s opinion of the war causes George to consider joining it. George later dies in the war. And so Editha becomes the reason for George’s death. His death is the cause of Editha’s visit to Mrs. Gearson, who rebukes Editha for her role in the death of her son. The story does not end at this event, however; the author leads it to a point in which the emotional detachment and ignorance of people who eulogize war from a safe distance is revealed.

Editha is a story about a girl with immature beliefs on patriotism when he encouraged his soldier partyner to join the war to help save the country. George, his partner was hesitant to join but was eventually provoked by Editha. Editha did not get the nod of George's mother as Editha was the reason George joined the war and got killed.

We place a pair of inverted commas at the beginning of that person's speech, and another one at the ending.
