Which characteristics of archetypes best describe
masha68 [24]

Answer:Answer:

1. She lives by her own moral code.

2. She sacrifices herself for her values.

3. She is forced to make a difficult decision.

Explanation:

Sophocles' tragedy "Antigone" tells the story of Antigone, Oedipus' daughter. Her two brothers killed themselves in battle over power after their father's death. At the time of their death, their uncle, Creon, was in power. After the battle, Creon ordered one of her brother's burial with honors, whilst for the other brother he ordered no burial at all - because he dared to contest his brother's reign.

Antigone could not understand why Creon would give such inhumane orders against her brother's burial. She loved her brother and she thought that he deserved a proper burial too. So she buried her brother herself, disobeying Creon's orders.

She believed that even though there were laws in place, some things were above human laws - some thing were universally right and true - the laws of the universe, the laws of the gods. This means that even though Creon was against her brother's burial, Antigone had her own sense of justice and her own system of values, telling right from wrong = She lives by her own moral code.

She sacrificed herself for her values, because Creon condemned her to starvation to death if she kept to her own personal believes and buried her brother. She maintained her position, buried her brother and then killed herself, refusing to be killed by Creon. Her lover (Creon's son) killed himself upon hearing about her death and his mother killed herself too, causing a lot of suffering to Creon.

Therefore, she put her values above her own life and preferred to die for what she believed in, for her own strong sense of justice. She also caused indirect suffering to Creon in revenge, because he lost his son and wife through her death.

Last but not least, she is forced to make a difficult decision, because it's never easy to choose between one's own life and values. Ultimately, Antigone is a strong heroine, remembered by her strength to defy the norms and fight for what is right, even at the cost of her own life.
