The smell of a mouthwash .......................... during the process of ACQUISITION.
In psychology, acquisition refers to the first stage of learning when a response is established, that is, it refers to the period when a particular stimulus consistently evoke a particular conditioned response.
In the question given above, the smell of a mouthwash is the stimulus which brings about the experience of a painful dental procedure.

Which of the following is most consistent with homeostasis? Select one: a. As blood pressure falls, blood flow to cardiac (heart
alex41 [277]

Answer:

Both C and E are reasonable answers.

Explanation:

Homeostasis describes the body's ability to maintain a stable equilibirum. In other words, if the body experiences a stress, it will generate a response that works to counteract that stress and restore itself to how it was prior to the stress.

A. This describes a cause and effect (BP down --> venous return down). It does not describe an active physiological response to counteract the BP drop such as an increase in heart rate. Not homeostasis.

B. Again, a cause and effect is described. Blood vessel walls becoming thinner is not a response to counteract increased BP. Not homeostasis.

C. Here a response to a stress is described. Men are drinking more water. The body responds by getting rid of that water, restoring the body to its former state. This describes homeostasis.

D. This sounds like homeostasis, but it's actually the opposite of what happens. Dilation of peripheral blood vessels is a way for the body to get rid of heat. This is the opposite of what you would want if the body got colder - it would make the stress worse, which is the opposite of homeostasis. In actuality the response to cold temperature is constriction of blood vessels to preserve heat.

E. This deescribes homeostasis. The stress is increased glucose. The body's response to manage it is to release insulin, which helps remove the glucose from circulation.

The gray matter in the spinal cord is located in the ____________ , and its shape resembles a letter H, or a butterfly. The cell
mariarad [96]

Answer:

The gray matter in the spinal cord is located in the grey column , and its shape resembles a letter H, or a butterfly. The cell bodies of somatic motor neurons are primarily housed in the ventral or anterior horns, which innervate skeletal muscle.

Explanation:

The grey matter is a component of the central nervous system that contains neuronal and glial cells and it can be found in the brain, brainstem and spinal cord, in this last one, is found in the grey column, a mass of grey matter shaped in H form.

In this column the grey matter is divided into four columns (as you can see in the image I added):

 • The dorsal or posterior horn: contains somatosensorial neurons
 • The ventral or anterior horn: contains somatic efferent motor neurons (they exit the spinal cord to innervate skeletal muscle)
 • The intermediate column: contains neurons to innervate visceral organs
 • The lateral horn: same as the intermediate column

I hope you find this information useful and interesting! Good luck!

Lipoproteins are globular structures that are responsible for transporting lipids through the blood stream. Two types of lipopro
mariarad [96]

Answer:

The two types of lipoproteins are low density lipoprotein and high density lipoproteins

Explanation: As applying to low density lipoproteins (LDL), these are sometimes called the bad cholesterol because a high LDL level leads to a build up of cholesterol in the arteries. This condition narrows the arteries and increases the risk of heart attack, Strom and peripheral artery diseases.

High Density Lipoproteins (HDL), also known as the good cholesterol acts as a scavenger carrying LDL away from the arteries and back to the liver where the LDL is break down and passed from the body.

Determination of Caloric Content of Three Foods1. Compare the calorimeter that you built to a bomb calorimeter. How are they sim
yulyashka [42]

Answer:

The answers to both parts (1 and 2) are given below.

Explanation:

1. The calorimeter is similar to the bomb calorimeter in a way that both measure the changes in heat that occur as result of the chemical reaction taking place inside them. They are different in the sense that a bomb calorimeter provides an isolated system with constant volume and pressure, whereas a regular calorimeter allows pressure to equalize with the environment.

2. Carbohydrates are the molecules that break down and provides energy for cellular functions. Whereas, proteins are not meant for the production of energy but for the production of amino acids to function as structural units for protein synthesis. Simply, the breakdown of protein is for the synthesis of more proteins by providing several units of amino acids rather than the production of energy.
