Answer:

C. "It was made to be carried on the arm like an enormous ornamental bat..."

Explanation:

This is the statement that best shows that the author is using a humorous tone. By comparing the umbrella to an "ornamental bat," the author is being absurd. The idea of a bat designed for ornament is a silly one. Moreover, the umbrella was clearly not designed to be carried on the arm, but to be carried open in order to protect us from the rain.

(D) That Leila is shocked at what the driver of the convertible did

Incredulous is defined as being "unwilling to admit or accept what is offered as true". If we analyze the sentence carefully, we can sort of make out how she feels, but if we completely remove the word from the sentence and input something we can understand a little easier, such as:

<em>"...</em><u><em>incredibly surprised</em></u><em> that he would stop traffic just to yell at another driver behind him."</em>

We can see that it fits right in.

Lastly, look at the word itself. It has a lot in common with "incredible" which is a much more commonly used word, knowing that it means "too improbably to be believed". This is one of the best methods for finding out the meaning to words we don't know. It won't be perfect 100% of the time, but in most cases it works.

How does a parent’s relationship with his or her daughter while she is a bacha posh compare to after, when she is asked to prese
liq [111]

In Afghanistan, "bacha posh" directly translates to "dressed like a boy" for children who are born female. The families may choose to raise their daughters as bacha posh to ensure safety and a better quality of life.

During their childhood, bacha poshs are allowed movement to run errands, escort sisters, go to school and get an education, and even play sports. The parents give much freedom to bacha poshs. Once she reaches puberty she is expected to switch to a conservative women's lifestyle; to marry and have children. The parents behavior towards their daughter during and after the bacha posh phase is contradictory - the relationship towards their daughter is the complete opposite afterwards.

Sixteen," by Maureen Daly Describe the character of the narrator in 100 words. Cite evidence from the story to support your desc
IceJOKER [234]

In "Sixteen" by Maureen Daly, the narrator expresses how she is an intuitive teenage girl; she knows the trends, and she is up-to-date with the world. She also immediately insists that "I’m not so really dumb. I know what a girl should do and what she shouldn’t". Not only does she describe what she should and shouldn't wear, when she arrives at the skating rink she describes the sky and her surroundings, implying that she is highly detail oriented.

After she states twice that she was not a "dumb" girl, and giving reasons why she wasn't, we realize she was trying to reassure herself of the fact. All logic is out the window once she mets with her love interest, and she feels dumb for believing that he would call her; "for all of a sudden I know, what the stars knew all the time ---- he’ll never, never call --- never".
