The theme that these lines support is loyalty and fidelity are precious traits.

This excerpt presents Odysseus's dog, Argos, who waits for his master to return home for more than 20 years and, unlike his friend Eumaneus, recognizes Odysseus at once, even though he is in disguise. This shows that, although many years have passed, Argos has remained loyal to his master. However, when he sees him, he is not capable of greeting Odysseus because he is too sick and old. Moreover, Odysseus does not greet the dog either in order for people not to realize who he truly is.

Which two interconnected concepts does Carson McCullers develop in this excerpt from "Loneliness . . . an American Malady"? Love
goldenfox [79]

Carson puts two opposite forces, feelings or ideas to each-other. In the essay, these forces are love and fear. The author shows how these feelings work and what kind of effect they have on us. Love is a motivation, a positive feeling or something eradicates hate - in this essay fear. Fear, instead is something negative which wipes away love.

Read the excerpt from "As Good as Gold."
Wittaler [7]

There are five elements of a plot: Exposition, conflict, raising action, climax, falling action and Resolution. From these elements, the one that approaches best to that excerpt is Resolution. The word "finally" can be a signal word that denotes the ending part and Resolution means that the conflict has been solved and indicates the ending, which it really makes sense, since after all the things happened in Jake's life, at the end "I expect we'll need three servings of bacon today" refering maybe to a happy ending.
