It might be aid that he is portrayed as a lazy person not only physically but morally. His heart was broken because he did not marry his true loved. So he became cynical, he did not care the state of his soul.  he could not stop eating meat.
He might be considered a "Byronic " hero, he was against slavery and materialism.

Augustus St. Clare from Uncle Tom's Cabin is a handsome young man with large blue eyes and golden-brown hair as described in the novel. However, his elegant physical expressions are not compatible with his personality. St.Clare doesn't attain the same characteristics in his personality. He is lazy, laid-back an indulgent. His laid-back attitude prevents him to see the right from wrong as he doesn't want to understand and doesn't want to accept that the slavery is wrong. But he can also be someone different in serious matters and can put his passion into this as the description of his character shows.

Which sentence from Washington Irving's short story "Rip Van Winkle" is an example of indirect characterization?
Sophie [7]

Answer:

The answer is letter D.

Explanation:

Characterization refers to how the characters in a story are represented by telling or showing a certain feature or description of their personalities or characteristics. There are mainly two types of characterization:<em> direct and indirect.</em>

  • Direct Characterization- the writer <em>tells</em> the character's personality by mentioning direct statements. For example: "She was a brilliant girl." In this case, he is directly telling the reader.
  • Indirect Characterization- the writer <em>shows</em> the character's personality by cumulative details. Examples of this are the thoughts of the character, or the way she dresses.

Among the choices above,<u> it is only letter D which shows indirect characterization.</u> <u>The statement shows what the character thinks about working in the farm, according to what he declared.</u>

Ganezh [65]

Answer:

The excerpt from Enrique’s Journey tells a story about what happened to one victim, and “Children of the Drug Wars” uses words that create an emotional response to persuade readers to take action.

Explanation:

Sonia Nazario's "Enrique's Journey" revolves around the journey that a young boy Enrique undertook to be united with his mother. The perilous journey led him through many unfortunate encounters which shows how people like Enrique had to endure to get safely to America illegally.

Damon Barrett's "Children of the Drug Wars" presents the all too familiar scenario of what children have to endure and encounter in their lives during the war with drugs and how it has an impact on them and their future lives.

While the <u>excerpt from "Enrique's Journey" tells of a single victim, the latter excerpt uses words to create an appealing emotional response to persuade readers to take action.</u> Enrique's encounter with the gangsters terrified him so much that he asked to be deported. On the other hand, the speaker of the latter book asks for children of drug wars to be allowed to be taken as refugees so that they need not <em>"make the perilous journey north alone"</em>.
