Which sentences in this excerpt from Theodore Dreiser's "My Brother Paul" are examples of characterization that suggest Paul is

a superstitious person?
Of all those who had been so lavish in their greetings and companionship earlier in his life, scarcely one, so far as I could make out, found him in that retired world to which he was forced. One or two pegged-out actors sought him and borrowed a little of the little that he had; a few others came when he had nothing at all. His partners, quarreling among themselves and feeling that they had done him an injustice, remained religiously away. He found, as he often told my sister, broken horse-shoes (a "bad sign"), met cross-eyed women, another "bad sign," was pursued apparently by the inimical number thirteen—and all these little straws depressed him horribly. Finally, being no longer strong enough to be about, he took to his bed and remained there days at a time, feeling well while in bed but weak when up. For a little while he would go "downtown" to see this, that and the other person, but would soon return. One day on coming back home he found one of his hats lying on his bed, accidentally put there by one of the children, and according to my sister, who was present at the time, he was all but petrified by the sight of it. To him it was the death-sign. Some one had told him so not long before!!! NextReset

Read the excerpt from The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone by James Cross Giblin.
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

Through Akerblad’s actions, Giblin shows him as someone whose confidence eventually stood in the way of his success.

Explanation:

James Cross Giblin's work <em>The Riddle of the Rosetta Stone</em> is a historical work on the deciphered work of the Rosetta Stone that was discovered in Memphis. This historical stone laid the foundation for the understanding of the Egyptian language and scripts.

The given passage talks about Johan Akerblad, a Swedish student studying under Silvestre de Sacy. The passage details how his previous successes led him to make a mistake while deciphering the Stone. Through his actions, Giblin presents him as someone whose confidence in always succeeding led him to be adamant, thus obstructing him in the way of successfully deciphering the hieroglyphic. He made a mistake in claiming that the demotic hieroglyphic is alphabetic, leading to <em>"no further progress in deciphering the demotic passage on the Stone". </em>

Which phrase from the sentence best reveals the meaning of the word vindicated?
Art [367]

The word vindicated, which comes from the Latin word vindicatus, originally meant "to avenge or revenge" but its meaning soon shifted to "clear from censure or doubt, by means of demonstration." When you are vindicated, your name is cleared. You might also prove that you're right about something.

Viktor [21]

Answer:

B) You should always tell people how you feel.

Explanation:

Even though it may seem something difficult to do, especially to timid or introvert people, telling your feelings will always be better than keep them. By telling, you let others to understand you and keep missinterpretations out of the question. Also, it will help to <u>liberate the stressful weight</u> of having them inside.
