Three similar things between antebellum era democrats and gilded age democrats were:

1.- Spoils system: a system in which if Democrats or Republicans won an election gave jobs to its supporters. This system started in 1820 and went on until the Pendleton Act in 1883.

2. Sectionalism: Loyalty to the interests of  one one own's region. Some scholars say that this was the cause of the civil war but the truth was that it continue during the time of gilded age democrats.

3.- Division in factions. Democrats were divided before the war between anti-slavery democrats and slavery democrats. In the gilded age democrats were also divided due to economic interests.

The commonality in the politics of both the era was that the Democratic Party was the dominant party. The practices and slogans of the party were the same in both the eras.
